Graf von Faber Castell Limited Edition POY 2020 Sparta Black Fountain Pen
The Graf von Faber Castell Limited Edition POY 2020 Sparta Black Edition Fountain Pen is inspired by the Greek heroes of Sparta and their king Leonidas. The Spartiate’s discipline and superiority are legendary, acquired in a strict education from childhood onwards. In homage to the art of metalworking which was applied to produce Spartan armour, short swords and shields the distinctive barrel of the writing instruments is adorned with premium diamonds which are set by hand. The milled, matt grip zone is a reference to the warriors' breastplate. The milled decorations on the barrel are reminiscent of the archaic patterns on the Spartans’ protective, precisely fitting battle dress. The spring-loaded clip on the cap of the Pen of the Year 2020 is based on the shape of the Greek ridge helmet.
Plunger-type fountain pen with handmade 18-carat gold nib (magnum-sized)
42 uncut diamonds of 2.1 carat (blind, set by hand) as a reference to the rivets on the Spartan armour; they embody Greek values such as pride, persevearance and dignity; diamond is the hardest natural material – the word “diamond“ is derived from the Greek word adámas (ἀδάμας) which translates as “invincible“.
Milled, matt grip zone as a reference to the Spartan warriors‘ breastplate (adapted to the anatomy of the body), sand-blasted; milled pattern is reminiscent of the strip-style armour worn in the abdomen region.
