Namiki Kachimushi Limited Edition

Inspired by the dragonfly and lotus plant, this exquisitely crafted work of art is truly a timeless masterpiece that will be embraced by fine pen collectors and connoisseurs worldwide.   [caption id="attachment_1518" align="alignnone" width="1746"]NAMIKI_LimitedEdition_Kachimushi_Lotus_and_Dragonfly_2 Open View of Namiki Kachimushi Limited Edition Pen[/caption] Beautifully handcrafted by Namiki artisans, the Namiki Kachimushi Limited Edition tells a story of courage and hope. The Kachimushi (which literally means “Victory Bugs”) is more commonly known as the dragonfly and is believed to be a symbol of bravery. This symbol comes from the story of the ancient Emperor Yuryaku who is almost bitten by a horsefly as he was leading his men into battle but saved by a passing dragonfly. Dragonflies do not retreat, but fly on straight and steadfastly to catch their prey – an attribute prized by kings and warlords alike. Since then, the Kachimushi dragonfly has been regarded in Japan as a symbol of victory and was used as a design motif on helmets, swords and amours of Samurai warriors. Depicted alongside the Kachimushi dragonfly is a captivating lotus plant. Namiki artisans were inspired by the lotus plant because of its symbolism of good fortune. The lotus is said to have grown and blossomed from single root that lay buried for two thousand years. When it is cut in slices, the stalk of the ancient plant is filled with holes which are said to represent an open pathway to the future. The marriage of the courageous Kachimushi dragonfly and the transient yet powerful life-force of the lotus on the Namiki Kachimushi Limited Edition symbolizes courage, hope and renewal. The base of the pen is the Yukari Royale, decorated with both the Taka (Raised) Maki-e and Togidashi (Burnished) Maki-e techniques. Set in a scene of leaves and water expressed in Togadashi Maki-e, the Taka Maki-e dragonfly hovers elegantly above the lotus on Raden (mother-of-pearl) wings, and the stunning flower is brought to life with vivid and radiant colours. The combination of elements creates a truly breathtaking scene of beauty and elegance on this extraordinary fountain pen. The intricate writing instrument features a precision 18-karat gold nib with rhodium accents and a piston ink delivery system which ensures first-class writing quality and long-lasting performance. This limited edition pen is presented in a luxurious lacquer gift box, with a traditional Kisotsuishu lacquer ware lid. The lid is decorated with the same dragonfly and lotus design floating on several coloured layers of lacquer, which have been polished to represent the sparkling surface of the water. A special ink bottle designed specifically for this collectible pen completes the majestic presentation. With only 150 pieces available worldwide.
