Sailor Hunminjeongeum Limited Edition Fountain Pen

Sailor Hunminjeongeum Limited Edition Fountain Pen 21K, which was created by Sejong, the Greatest King of the Joseon Dynasty and his staff of scholars such as Choi Hang, Park Paengyon, Sin Sookjoo, Seong Sammoon, who belonged to the Hall of Worthies or Jiphyeonjeon, consists of four different meaning: Hun 訓 means "Education", Min 民 "the people", Jeong 正"proper", Eum 音 "sound".  To sum, Hunminjeongeum 訓民正音 means "The Proper Sounds for the Education of the People", after which the alphabet itself was named. Sailor Hanminjeongeum Limited Edition Fountain pen is composed of total of 28 alphabets of consonants and vowels.  Its characters imitated humans' shapes of lips, the teeth, the mouth, the nasal cavity, the throat and the tongue.  It is said that Hunminjeongeum is the most scientific and original in the history of the letters system.  Consonants precisely locate lips, mouth and tongue's place and 28 consonants and vowels are combined horizontally and vertically to form a square with perfect order arrangement. Hangul. which is the national language in Korea, originated from Hunminjeongeum that was promulgated by the fourth King of the Joseon Dynasty, Sejong the Great in the twelfth lunar month of 1443 despite the consistent opposition of the educated elite, who thought of China as the centre of the world and paid little attention to the common people.  Hangul has been highly praised and been centre focus of attention as the world's most rational letter because of its originality and the most efficient combination of symbols. This special Sailor Hanminjeongeum Limited Edition Fountain pen  is gracefully 'etched' both with Hunminjeongeum 28 consonants and vowels arranged in 7 columns and 4 rows on the cap and with the Preface to the original Hunminjeongeum etched on the barrel as follows: Because our mother tongue is different from Chinese, we cannot communicate with each other.  Thus, though the common people want to express their thinking, they cannot do it fully.  I, who have felt pity for that, have invented new 28 letters so that I wish everybody to use it easily in everyday lives. Each Sailor Hanminjeongeum Limited Edition Fountain pen is fitted with this very rare Sailor 21kt gold nib made by Sailor's late grand nib master, Nagahara Nobuyoshi in 2006.  It is a limited edition of 99 pieces but then; this pen is extremely rare to find. About Sailor Pen Japan

Sailor Pen Japan was founded in 1911 by Kyugoro Sakata, an engineer from the historic naval port of Hiroshima in Japan, who was introduced to a Fountain Pen brought from England by a sailor friend. He was determined to produce a finely crafted Japanese writing instrument with the highest specification and writing experience.

The company was named Sailor Pen with the aspiration of expanding this homegrown name, Sailor Pen, internationally like the voyages of a Sailor.

Sailor Pen became the first company to produce Fountain Pens for the domestic Japanese market and it is credited to be one of the oldest established pen companies in Japan. Sailor Pen has continued to maintain its heritage of quality and technical excellence over more than a 100 years since then.

Today, Sailor Pens are remembered by any avid fountain pen users as the gold standard in Japanese fountain pen nib making from its late nib artisan, Nagahara Nobuyoshi 長原宣義. Many nib designs by Sailor Pen are hotly sought after by collectors for its extraordinary writing ability like the Sailor Concorde nib which allows one to write in both fine nib and brush strokes font style on just one fountain pen nib by turning it upside down.

Sailor Pen is also well known for making Japanese makie fountain pens which are usually made by master Japanese artisans in Kaga  makie style. Notable Sailor Limited Edition fountain pens made to commemorate its 100th Anniversary in Arita, Sailor Limited Edition Noto Nogoro Fountain pens and Nagahara Nobuyoshi’s Retirement Pens are just some of the many popular fountain pens made by the Japanese pen manufacturer based in Hiroshima.
