In the fable of The Great Race, the Jade Emperor ordered all the animals to attend a meeting, promising to assign twelve of them to the lunar years.  Their position on the calendar would be determined by their order of arrival. But to attend, they would first need to cross a wide river. The mighty tiger believed the race was his to lose, but he misjudged the strong currents and could not pass the sturdy ox, nor the cunning rat.  Third place was all he could manage, and tigers’ desire to assert their superiority has flourished ever since. The Year of the Tiger calls forth qualities of vigour, strength and courage. Tigers are ambitious leaders: seldom known to mince their words.  Fortunately for them, phrases flow freely through Year of the Tiger’s high-precision, two-tone gold nib. Year of the Tiger, 1 February 2022 – 21 January 2023 Limited to 100 fountain pens, Year of the Tiger is made possible only by the skill and diligence of our master engravers. Alternating layers of high and low-relief sterling silver render the watching tiger in striking detail, while tiger-stripe textures ripple down its entire length – glistening in the light. A custom clip uses the tiger’s tail as its playful inspiration. Here, camouflaging is deliberately bold. Besides hinting at the ambition of its owner, it sends a warning to would-be rivals. For as the Chinese idiom says, “One mountain cannot contain two tigers.”
