The Ancient Egyptians were excellent record keepers, 'storing' the details in 'Hieroglyphics'- a word derived from the Greek words 'Hiero' meaning 'Sacred' and 'Glyphein' meaning to 'carve' or' inscribe'.
More than 2000 hieroglyphic characters were used representing common objects, by the sound of the characters required. The reading direction of the Hieroglyphic characters was determined by the direction the figures faced in the inscription.
Many of the inscriptions 'Hieroglyphics' specifically related to "The Pharaohs" (rulers) of the time. One famous source of Hieroglyphics was 'The Rosetta Stone' (now in the British Museum) which was found in 1799 and dates back to 196BC. It was translated and was found to have engravings written by a group of priests to honor and celebrate the Ancient Egyptian Pharaohs of the era.
The stories recount the great achievements of these ancient rulers -"The Pharaohs”.
The Ancient Egyptians were the first civilization to perfect writing instruments, inks and papyrus (paper) to record and preserve their scripts.
