Kamakura Bori Semi Kurojiku 

"Kamakura-Bori" is a traditional art form handed down 700 years ago from the Kamakura Period.

During the Kamakura Period, many Buddhist temples were built. "Kamakura-Bori"is said to originate from the sculptors of Buddha and the laquering on carved Buddhist objects. They were influenced by Chinese traditional lacquer-carving (Tsuishy, Tsuikoku, Benibanaryokuba etc.)

"Kamakura-Bori"is attractively hand carved from Magnolia, and Gingko trees and then coated with many layers of special bright coloured lacquer. The most representative example of "Kamakura-Bori"uses special "Shumakinuri"lacquer in which a special powder of Mokomo (wild rice) is sprinkled into a bright vermillion lacquer, producting a strong three dimensional impression of the sculpture. This special characteristic cannot be found in other lacquer wares. This technique is repeated twice by artist Tadashi Komiya to produce our special Kamakura-Bori writing instrument.

In this Sailor Limited Edition Cicada Fountain Pen, the "Cicada perched on a Black Stem"; where the Cicada is skillfully carved onto the cap and the stem is handcrafted to give a user the feel and touch of really - "the stem". The pen is light weight and the barrel is very comfortable to hold as it has the natural touch and feel of the real bark of the tree. A delightful and wonderful pen!

This is the only known piece to be made and is UNIQUE one of one piece fountain pen.  It is fitted with a solid 21kt solid gold Naginata Cross Point nib.
