In Japanese culture, Owl is the symbol of Good Luck. It is in the way the Japanese name for Owl, Fukuro フクロウ (梟), which can be written in different sets of characters. One with the meaning of "Luck "(福 fuku); 来ku, to come; 郎 ro suffix used in boys' names). The other interpreation is written as protection from hardship (不 fu, no, 苦労 kurou suffering/hardship).

The Namiki Yukari Royal Chinkin Owl Pen was made by skilled artisan, the late Shouji Michikami, as his refine work of Chinkin 沉金 requires the thousands of lines and dots which define the owl's destintive eyes and its breast. As soon as the carving is done, precious gold powder are applied meticulously onto the pen to fill the engravings. Urushi lacquer is subsequently applied on the Chinkin Owl fountain pen and allowed to dry in a dust free environment.
