Graf von Faber Castell Pen Of The Year 2016 is an inspiration of Chinese Lacquer Panel from the "Vieux-Laque" Room of Schönbrunn Palace, Vienna.  Combining a touch of Asia with German sophisticated master craftsmanship, this limited edition reminiscent Austria's beloved Empress Maria Theresa.  Graf von Faber Castell Pen Of The Year 2016 declares a love of one's husband as it was inspired by Empress Maria Theresa's love of her late husband, Francis Stephen of Lorraine (c. 1765), that she decorated a special room at the Schönbrunn Palace with Chinese Lacquer Panel screens.  The magnificent sights of these oriental art brightens a vast collection of Schönbrunn Palace till today.

Empress Maria Theresa once said that "Nothing in this world, all diamonds mean nothing to me. The only thing that gives me joy come from China, specially Lacquerware."  For this reason, the screens' black lacquer panels painted with chinese Miaojin gold technique wre placed in panelling made from flamed maple and set with a gilded frame in 1770.  Landscapes, pagodas and floral designs in delicate gold painting have been captivating visitors in the Vieux-Laque Room ever since.  A symbol of Happiness, Wealth, Impermanence and Immortality.

Graf von Faber Castell Pen Of Year 2016 Limited Edition is a collaboration with conservator of Vieux-Laque Room Silvia Miklin and Japanese artist Tomizo Saratani who specializes in Japanese maki-e technique. 

The Graf von Faber Castell Pen Of The Year 2016 Limited Edition Platinum Plated Rollerball pen is also inspired by the design of the Vieux-Laque Room in a unique way. Hand-ground plates made from deep black onyx are set in and elaborately created. Platinum plated rollerball pen is limited to 150 units worldwide.

The individually numbered writing instruments are kept in a polished, black wooden case. It includes a certificate personally signed by the master craftsman of the gemstone manufactory Herbert Stephan in Idar Oberstein attesting to the authenticity of the onyx used.
