Beauty, distinctive petals, rich aromas and elegant flower shapes are the signatures of the ever-changing rose. The rose is often described as the symbol of love and beauty, and is one of the world's most beloved flowers. The Rose holds many stories. In Greek mythology, roses were offered to Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty. Many Queens throughout history have loved and treasured the rose. Even in Japan, poetry about the wild Japanese rose Noibara/Rosa multiflora is mentioned in the Manyoshu, Japan's oldest anthology of poems. The rose flower has been valued all over the world since ancient times, not only to be admired, but for its rose oil, perfume scent and medicinal value. Only 150 Namiki Golden Rose Limited Edition fountain pens have been produced worldwide. The pen body of the Yukari Royale type has been decorated by the skilled artisan Yutaka Sato, employing refined Maki-e lacquering techniques. The "Golden Rose" fountain pen's combination of Togidashi-Taka (Burnished-Raised) Maki-e technique with Raden (Mother-of-Pearl) technique lends the rendition of change and depth. The rose flower utilizes Taka (Raised) Maki-e for a dense composure. The leaves are intentionally created by Warigai (Cracked Shell Inlaid) technique with Aogai (blue shell) to accent the entire design. The base is sprinkled with gold powder and burnished leaving powerful impressions as to the complexity of the design. In addition, it has a special lacquer called kinji - gold lacquer - not seen in any of its limited edition so far except in discontinued Emperor Collection - The Fuji Deer. The pen is presented in a leather-bound gift box with an embossed rose design on the lid. A special Inden pouch is also included with a rose motif with the Namiki logo and is made exclusively for this presentation. Inden is a Japanese traditional technique to draw a Urushi lacquer pattern onto the deer hide. An 18-karat gold nib accented in rhodium and a piston ink delivery system is also feautured. An ink bottle, designed specifically for this work of art, completes the majestic presentation.
