Wind God & Thunder God motif alias "Fujin Raijin"風神神 was first painted by Tawaraya Sōtatsu 俵屋 宗達 in the Edo Period and was popularized in many daily products used by Japanese till today. It shows the surging Wind God in taka-makie carrying with Him the streak of wind in his hands made in Silver maki-e while the Thunder God in taka-makie.  The background is decorated artistically with gold dust and togidashi maki-e to create the beginning of rain to come.  The creative use of silver as the wind is an ingenious thought of the mak-e artists to illustrate wind because silver oxidizes and changes to grey colour like wind. The two deities with one on the cap and the other at the barrel focusing their powess at the centre of the pen creates strong dynamism on this majestic writing instrument. Each Namiki Wind God Thunder God Limited Edition is presented in a beautifully crafted wood box engraved with the two deities on the box cover and a bottle of ink.  The box comes with a special key to keep this treasured pen.
