KaiAwase Shell Matching

Pilot KaiAwase 80th Anniversary Limited Edition is a limited Edition of 55 pieces made to commemorate Pilot's 80th Anniversary and designed by Yasunori Sakamoto. A beautiful and refreshing fountain pen showing a matching game of which two sides of the shells are to matched.  At a later stage, paintings, ages or different parts of a poem were written on the inside of the shells as the rule of the game became more sophisticated.

The Pilot KaiAwase fountain pen illustrated an innovative painting of the flora of the Four Seasons with the Spring shown as Plum, Summer as Wisteria, Autumn as Maple and Winter as Snow.  Taka maki-e, Rakaku (quail egg shells) and raden (mother of pearl) were generously used to create this beautiful piece of pen. The background is sprinkled with gold dust and the peony and creepers were given high relief lacquer. Together with the Pilot Bugaku, Pilot Soushi-e and this pen, Pilot Kai-Awase; the Miyabi Collection was and is still the most memorable collection created by Pilot for it's Anniversary Pens.
