When Namiki first showcase a new technique in its modern collection with Chinkin 沉金, it was a refreshing but well received technique apart from its flagship maki-e works. The technique of Chinkin is a technique whereby the artisan uses a sharp but very fine scraper to make indentations and lines on a pre-traced surface.  Using such a tool requires an artisan to control his strength and artistic creativity to create the millions of dots and lines on the surface.  Gold powder was then filled the lines and dots before it was lacquered with AAA lacquer.

The Emperor size Namiki Sakura Pheasant Chinkin Limited Edition is a 99 pieces edition single handedly crafted by renown artist, Shouji Michikami 正司 .  The Namiki Sakura Pheasant Chinkin Limited Edition fountain pen had brought great success to the Kokokai artisan with more pen collectors wanting more of his works. Chinkin works were best viewed with a magnifying glass as you can see the fine lines and dots creating wonderful images in great detail.  In this case, you can see the details of the features of the  Golden Pheasant's breast and the use of high quality blue abalone shells were inlaid onto the Sakura flowers.
