Special Tribute To Count Anton-Wolfgang von Faber-Castell

Posted on21/01/2016

Count Anton-Wolfgang von Faber-Castell, the Eighth Generation family entrepreneur of the famous Faber-Castell brand, known for its pencils since 1761, has passed away on 21 January 2016 at the age 74.

A distinguished gentleman who had exhibited great vision and leadership in bringing one of the best known German brands from humble pencils to the world of luxury fine writing instruments.

Count Anton-Wolfgang von Faber-Castell first visited Elephant & Coral in 1996 when the earliest collection of the Graf Von Faber-Castell was first launched in Asia then.  His tall and distinctive features together with his trademark Bavarian Coat left a deep impression with everyone who had met him.

It was in 2006 when Elephant & Coral met both Count Anton and Count Andreas again in Nuremberg, Germany, to celebrate 245th Anniversary of Faber-Castell.  In this photo taken when Count Anton together with Count Andreas were giving away prizes for a creative contest.

His extraordinary vision in leading Faber-Castell from the era of stationery graphite pencils into a new era of luxury fine writing instrument is both inspirational and commendable.

Elephant & Coral opened its first Graf von Faber-Castell shop-in-shop in Asia, outside of Japan in 1998 at Wheelock Place Singapore (but we are now in Mandarin Gallery).  Since then, Graf von Faber-Castell had become a name that is synomous to stylish design of luxury fountain pens and desk top accessories.  Of course, the iconic Graf von Faber Castell Perfect Pencil is the flagship of that spirit.

The man who had transformed a traditional product into a stylish, comtemporary in style and taste is by no mean feat.  It is a model of innovation and creativity in his eyes that bring forth a brand that transient into the new millenium with courage and aspiration so that many more can appreciate Faber-Castell and Graf von Faber-Castell's motto of Simplicity is A Luxury.

An eulogy to Count Anton-Wolfgang von Faber-Castell writes:

A Man of Great Inspiration, Leadership & Vision. May You Rest In Peace, Count

~ Herman Chan, Elephant & Coral Singapore

Farewell, Count Anton
