The Pilot 100th Anniversary Limited Edition Fuji & Meiji-Maru Fountain Pen depicts on its cap the majestic Mt.Fuji, gazing down on the departing ship, while on the barrel the Meiji-Maru sailing ship is rendered in Togidashi-Taka Maki-e (Burnished-Raised Maki-e).  Both Pilot's founders, who were graduates of the Tokyo Nautical School, sailed on the Meiji-Maru as part of their training.  At sea, it is the pilot who guides ships safely through dangerous waters, and the name of the company—PILOT—was chosen in the hope that we might become a guiding figure in the course of the fountain pen industry.  The design of this fountain pen reflects the founders’ wishes: a rich blue lacquer base suggests the sky and the sea, while the departing Meiji-Maru, her sails raised against the backdrop of Mt.Fuji, her prow pointed towards the next one hundred years, is rendered in Togidashi-Taka Maki-e (Burnished-Raised Maki-e).  The Fuji & Meiji-Maru is a limited edition of 800 pens worldwide.
