Namiki Peacock Limited Edition was produced in 2005 and inspired by the beauty of this exotic bird.  The Peacock was originally brought to Japan in 597 from Silla (now Korea) and presented to noblemen and people of exalted position.  Thus, made in 80 pieces limited edition, The Namiki Peacock Limited Edition fountain pen is a treasured collection and a heirloom. [caption id="attachment_3854" align="alignright" width="150"]Raden radiates on the eyespot Glitter of the mother of pearl on the eyespot of the Peacock Tail[/caption] Hand crafted by top urushi artist Masato Sato 真人 of Kokokai 國光會, the Yukari Royal size pen has been decorated  in hira maki-e technique with gold powder sprinkled onto lacquer and polished, taka makie high relief lacquer and finally togidashi maki-e to create the burnish tone on the pen.  Raden mother of pearl were then inlaid onto the eyespots of the magnificent tail.  The glimmer of these blue mother of pearl is simply gorgeous! The pen cap features a pea hen and peony flowers, a symbol of prosperity as it was considered the King of Flowers in the Far East. An 18kt solid gold nib with rhodium accent and knob filler completes the ink delivery system. The presentation box for the Namiki Peacock Limited Edition Fountain Pen is stunning as it is made of Hokone wood mosaic.  It was during the Edo period (1603 ~ 1869) when these wooden mosaic parquetry was a major export product and the exquisite cratsmanship earned its artisans an excellent reputation.  This box itself is the only artform remaining in the Hakone wooden mosiac style and is designated as a traditional craftwork.
