hira maki-e technique with gold powder sprinkled onto lacquer and polished, taka makie high relief lacquer and finally
togidashi maki-e to create the burnish tone on the pen.
Raden mother of pearl were then inlaid onto the eyespots of the magnificent tail. The glimmer of these blue mother of pearl is simply gorgeous! The pen cap features a pea hen and peony flowers, a symbol of prosperity as it was considered the King of Flowers in the Far East. Hokone wood mosaic. It was during the Edo period (1603 ~ 1869) when these wooden mosaic parquetry was a major export product and the exquisite cratsmanship earned its artisans an excellent reputation.
